INTRODUCTION

MPEG LA's ATSC Patent Portfolio License provides fair, reasonable, nondiscriminatory access to patents that are essential to use of the digital television standard developed by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and used in digital televisions sold in the United States, South Korea, Mexico, Canada and other countries. The License is offered as a convenience enabling users to acquire worldwide patent rights from multiple patent owners in a single transaction as an alternative to negotiating individual licenses.

MPEG LA's ATSC Patent Portfolio License currently includes patents owned by Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.; LG Electronics Inc.; Mitsubishi Electric Corporation; Panasonic Corporation; Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.; Scientific-Atlanta, Inc.; and Zenith Electronics LLC.*

MPEG LA's goal is to provide worldwide access to as much ATSC essential intellectual property as possible; new essential patents and new Licensors may be added to the Patent Portfolio License at no additional royalty during the current license term.
